Elizabeth M. “Liz” Kana passed away on March 1, 2021, at the age of 101, at Columbus Oaks Healthcare Community, Columbus, Texas.
Liz was born on January 4, 1920 in Schulenburg, Texas to Mary and Joe Anders. Attended St. Rose Catholic School – Schulenburg, Texas.
On July 25, 1945, Liz and V.J. “Jiggs” Kana were married in Schulenburg, Texas, and then lived in Weimar, Texas; Holman, Texas and moved to Eagle Lake, Texas in 1956. Worked alongside of Jiggs at Western Auto in Eagle Lake and later for Eagle Lake Implement Company.
Liz enjoyed cooking and baking especially angel food cakes, playing canasta with friends in Eagle Lake, playing bingo and watching Wheel of Fortune. Was primary care taker for many years for mother, Mary Anders and aunt, Elizabeth (Aunt Ada) Ward. Active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help –now Parish of the Nativity, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and KJZT.
Liz was preceded in death by husband, V. J. “Jiggs” Kana, daughter, Betty Jane Kana and brother, A. J. “Andy” Anders.
Survived by son, Phillip A. “Phil” Kana and wife, Elizabeth and granddaughters, Amanda Marie Kana (Keller, Texas) and Elissa Anne Kana (Iowa City, Iowa).
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, from 5 to 7 pm at Eagle Lake Funeral Home, 607 N. McCarty Ave., Eagle Lake, Texas 77434 followed by rosary at 7 pm led by representatives from the Catholic Daughters – Our Lady of the Fields Court-2465. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Holman, Texas, by Father Eddie Winkler.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Columbus Oaks Healthcare Community, Rice Medical Center and Columbus Community Hospital for their loving and compassionate care.
