Joel Antonio Garza, born on August 17, 1945, in Ejido Buenos Aires, Mexico, passed away on February 9, 2025, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. He was 79 years old.

 

Joel spent many years on the road as a professional truck driver, a career that took him many miles and showcased his dedication and resilience. His family describes him as a very hard worker, never afraid to complete a task.

 

Beyond his professional pursuits, Joel was a true family man who deeply valued the time spent with his loved ones. He shared a profound love with his wife, Maria Garza, which was a cornerstone of his life. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love and support.

 

Joel is survived by his wife, Maria Garza; his son, Joel A. Garza, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Katy, Texas; his daughter, Gabriela Saucedo and her husband Richard of Sealy, Texas; and his son, Jose Garza of Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. Joel was also a proud grandfather to Jared A. Garza, Jason A. Garza, Elizabeth Garza, Richard A. Saucedo, Jr., Christian A. Saucedo, Madelyne Saucedo, Jennifer Olvera, Jack Garza, Liam Garza, Finn Garza, and Enzo Garza; and he cherished his great grandchildren Gael Saucedo, Calista Ortiz & Maximus Olvera. Additionally, he is survived by many siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him fondly.

 

A visitation to honor Joel Antonio Garza will be held on February 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Eagle Lake Funeral Home, located at 607 N. McCarty Ave, Eagle Lake, Texas, 77434.

 

Joel's passion for life also extended to his personal interests. He always enjoyed spending time on his tractor tending to his farm, a reflection of his connection to the land and the simple joy he found in it.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Elba Enriqueta (Medina) and Eleuterio Garza. His legacy of hard work, dedication to family, and love for life will continue to inspire those who knew him.
